S - Then he said to them, "Go and eat what is rich, drink what is sweet, and send portions to those who have nothing prepared, since today is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, because the joy of the Lord is your stronghold." - Nehemiah 8:10
O - The people of Israel had been without the Word of God during the exile. They are finally returning and hearing the words of the law, which causes all the people to weep when they hear the Word (v9). In verse 10, Ezra and Nehemiah are saying to rejoice/ celebrate, give to those who have nothing prepared. The joy of the Lord is our strength.
A - oh that I would have the same reaction to the Word of God...that I would long for the Word and I would weep when I'm without it...to be moved by the reading of God's Word, to rejoice and celebrate because of God's Word and to know that the joy of the Lord is my strength!
P - Lord, thank you for joy. Thank you for being my strength. Lord I pray that I will be able to share with others what you have done this Christmas season so that they too can rejoice and celebrate in you!
