S - NLT v. 1-2 Remind the believers to submit to the government and its officers. They should be obedient , always ready to do what is good. They must not slander anyone and must avoid quarreling. Instead, they should be gentle and show true humility to everyone.
O - These verses didn't say submit to government if you "LIKE" the officials. It says submit, be obedient, ready to do good, don't slander anyone, avoid quarreling, be gentle, show true humility. It's very easy for me to sit back and complain about our government and officials. When in line with scripture I should be submitting and praying for them. My dad has always quoted this to me, "authority is right, but authority isn't always right". I don't know who he got that from but it's a reminder that even though authority isn't always making the best decisions they are my authority and I have to obey and submit to them in line with scripture.
A - I want to specifically pray for our government officials local, state, national and not slander them. And have a mindset of gentleness and humility with everyone even when I don't agree with them.
P - Father thank you for giving us authority to live under and thank you even more for giving us the grace and your wisdom to know when they don't line up with your Word. Please give me wise words and humility when praying for them! Please protect our country and government and bring us back to you!
